DIG A WELL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have donated a well, what happens next?
JazakAllah for your donation, our teams will be on the ground using local knowledge to situate a well in an area of need.
The well will be constructed as soon as weather/local conditions permit.
Once the well has been built, you will receive photos, a completion report as well as a certificate.
If you wish to receive a certificate upon completion your donation, please request this via email at info@islamicappeal.org
How long does it take to build a well?
This all depends on the current circumstance on the ground, we try to build as soon as conditions permit, the average time will be between 9 – 12 months which we believe is reasonable as we have heard other charities take up to 2-3 years.
Where will my well be built?
Currently we are working in South East Asia in the poorest regions where there is a dire need for communities to have access to clean safe water.
Although we would love our Donors to chose where the well be built, we can’t facilitate this request as this will increase administration costs, something Islamic Appeal wants to avoid as we believe all funds should be dedicated to actually helping the needy thus avoiding unnecessary admin costs.
What is the difference between a shallow well and deep well?
Average depth of Shallow Water Well will be 250 to 300 feet and for deep will be 350 to 400 feet. Apart from the depth, the key difference is that some areas do not allow for us to build a shallow well as it will not be safe for drinking purposes. A deep well is usually placed in a more remote area as to where no wells have been built due to the high cost of implementing a deep well and therefore it will be beneficial to a larger community.
What is the selection criteria of the place chosen to build a well?
Lack of pure surface water (gap of surface water for whole/part of the year)
No Water supply by WASA or Municipality or any other entity.
Surface water is polluted
Sufficient space to install a Tube-well
Remote village area
Near institutions (Mosque / School / Madrasha and Moktab / Market / Bazar etc).
Highly populated areas.
Financially poor families/villages.
Will I get updates? How will it be monitored?
This project will be monitored through supervision by both program personnel and internal control staff i.e. Internal Audit and Monitoring and Evaluation Team. Completion report will be made at the end of the project, for specific updates, please contact us via email or phone.
Can I dedicate/put multiple names on a well?
We do not limit the amount of names that can be put on a well, although we do have a space limit of 35 characters as going past this will not fit on the plaque with a legible font size.
